Today I Believe

When I began to notice love
I perceived it as a dream
Cause that's the way it seemed
(Perhaps an adolescent thought)
Then I began to think
And love became a skeptics wing
I flew to view rational reason
None could be found
So I said, love isn't real
And doubts and fears of reason
Were revealed

Today I believe
Like I believe before
Love his how it feels
And how I feel is love
Love isn't evidenced things
Persuasive to the mind
And love isn't easy to read
In a word it's not defined
But in our hearts we feel
We know love

I believe, today, I know love
I know, like before, what is love
One and one is one I state with fervent employ
Today I'll cry the tears I've saved
For everlasting joy
(And our love will be eternal
Others thought will be confound
'Cause in our hearts we know, we feel love)

People judge
How can they?
Know His ways in our hearts
You and I
Are know we
We can see we are love

Before today we walked our path
Seeking, struggling, strengthening our ways
Only to climb a higher road
Today we are side by side
To make our burdens light
And time and progress
Will testify we're right
And our love will be
Eternally

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY AMY AND JIM! March 2

March 1990: My sister asked me to write a song for her wedding. I don't know why she thought I could write a wedding song. I don't know why I thought I could write a wedding song. I can't believe I even tried. My observation at the time was that "people" were saying she was too young. Why not wait until you're out of school? What are you going to do to afford a family? Who is this goofy guy? :) What impressed me about Amy was that she was so confident and sure that she was doing the right thing. Well if anybody knows her, and her family, you would agree with me that she made the right decision- "time and progress". In my opinion they have a successful marriage.

I remember plucking this out in the apartment at school. My roommates would come by and I'd hide the words I'd been writing, play some rockin tune, and say something sarcastic so they wouldn't think I was writing some specialness.

I sang this at her reception. My friend Ross Hart played the flute. I wish he was on the recording.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!
For the song, for putting it on here, for writing it for me! Scott and Kamrie came over to the computer to hear it, and then when I read what you wrote I of course started crying! I think Kamrie was very concerned!

Love you!

(can you send me the song in an email?)

I remember this song from when you first wrote it. It was great then. Still is.
